The BotanfryInspired by the rosette tool that creates the crunchy and delicious Thai lotus flower cookie, or kanom dok jok.
I created an improved version for my mom: replacing brass with stainless steel, and an added wooden handle for easier grip. This product taught me how to ideate, plan, make, and fail quickly.
To this day, my mom still uses The Botanfry.

ME 203: Design and Manufacturing
Students are asked to discover a product with meaning to them; develop a point of view which motivates a redesign of that product; manufacture a series of models, multiple candidates, including sketches, product use stories, rapid prototypes, CAD documents, manufacturing test models, and finally a customer ready prototype. Each student will physically create their product using Product Realization Lab resources, and also redesign their product for scaled manufacturing to develop a knowledge of manufacturing processes, design guidelines, materials choices, and the opportunities those processes provide.

Make it stand out
Being Hmong is almost a full time job, plus some overtime. Thursday or Friday evenings after work, my mom would come home and prepare the batter. Rice flour, coconut milk, sugar, water.
My four siblings and I help set up stations — one big wok half- filled with hot oil, two buckets with a wood board atop covered with aluminum foil and a layer of paper towel to absorb oil, and two cups.
